Lemonade Pet is not sold in every state.
Lemonade is our 9.0/10 dog plan and 9.2/10 top-scored cat plan. Its app-based claims process is a draw. Lemonade’s current pet-insurance guide lists no accident waiting period after the policy starts, 14 days for illnesses, and 30 days for orthopedic conditions. Check your issued policy for the terms that apply to your coverage. Annual limits configure from $5,000 up to $100,000. Optional wellness, dental illness, behavioral care, and physical therapy add-ons are available. As of October 2, 2026, Lemonade Pet is not yet available in Alaska, Idaho, Kansas, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, or Wyoming.

What it covers, and what it caps
Annual limit options: $5,000 up to $100,000 depending on how you configure the policy

Reimbursement: 70%, 80% or 90%
Wellness / routine care: Optional preventive care packages and separate add-ons for dental, behavioral conditions, physical therapy, vet visit fees and end-of-life expenses are available. Dental options vary by state: Dental Illness excludes pre-existing dental conditions and routine cleanings; Dental Care includes both, with no deductible and a $1,000 annual limit. Check your current quote and issued policy for availability and cost.

Pre-existing conditions
Base accident-and-illness coverage excludes conditions that showed signs before enrollment or during the waiting period. In most states, temporary or curable pre-existing conditions or injuries can be covered again after 12 consecutive months without recurrent symptoms or continued treatment. Chronic conditions and knee or ligament conditions cannot be covered as curable pre-existing conditions. Where offered, the separate Dental Care add-on covers pre-existing dental conditions; Dental Illness excludes them. The end-of-life add-on can cover vet-recommended euthanasia due to a pre-existing condition, subject to its terms.

Where Lemonade stands
- Illness wait: 14 days, the same as Embrace, Spot, Pets Best and Figo. Healthy Paws lists 15 days, Fetch up to 15, Trupanion 30.
- Orthopedic wait: 30 days under current marketing, including cruciate injuries. Embrace, Pets Best and Figo start at 6 months but can cut or waive it with a vet exam. Spot has no separate orthopedic wait.
- Second chance on curable conditions: only Lemonade (in most states) and Embrace list one.
- The catch: Lemonade tops out at $100,000 a year. Six of the other seven can be set to unlimited. Not sold in Alaska, Idaho, Kansas, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, or Wyoming.
