What it covers, and what it caps
Annual limit options: Unlimited on every plan — there is only one plan design, not a menu of caps
Deductible: Per-condition, not annual — pay it once per diagnosed condition, for the life of the pet, not every year. Configurable in $50 steps from $0 to $1,000, plus $1,350/$1,500/$1,750 options.
Reimbursement: Fixed at 90% — not configurable, unlike every other insurer here
Wellness / routine care: No routine-care wellness plan. Optional add-ons instead cover recovery/complementary care, a breeding rider, and pet-owner assistance — none of them routine checkup coverage.
Direct vet pay: The only insurer here offering true Vet Direct Pay — it pays the clinic directly at checkout (where the hospital supports it) so you only cover your deductible and 10% at the counter instead of fronting the whole bill and waiting for reimbursement. About 75% of claims are handled within 24 hours.

Who Trupanion is not for
Budget-conscious owners — this is consistently the most expensive plan in this lineup month to month — or anyone who wants to shop reimbursement rate down to lower the premium; 90% is the only rate on offer.
