Short answer

Embrace scores 8.8/10 for dogs and 8.7/10 for cats. Accidents are covered as soon as the policy is effective. Illness waits 14 days. Cruciate ligament injury, IVDD, and hip dysplasia wait 6 months, cut to 14 days if your vet submits an orthopedic exam in the first two weeks. The annual deductible drops $50 every claim-free year. Accident and illness limits run from $2,000 to unlimited. Curable pre-existing conditions can be re-evaluated after 12 consecutive symptom-free, treatment-free months. Illustrative starting estimates are about $41/mo for a healthy one-year-old dog and $22/mo for a cat. Those are not quotes. WhichPetPlan does not earn a commission from Embrace.

What it covers, and what it caps

Annual limit options: $2,000 to unlimited on accident and illness plans. Accident-only is a fixed $5,000 a year. There is no lifetime maximum, only the annual maximum the customer chooses.

Deductible: Annual, $100 to $1,000 ($100/$250/$500/$750/$1,000). Drops $50 for every claim-free year via the Healthy Pet Deductible.

Reimbursement: 70%, 80% or 90%

Wellness / routine care: Yes. The optional Wellness Rewards add-on gives a $250 or $450 annual allowance toward routine care, including things most insurers exclude like grooming, nail trims and nutrition consults.

Waiting periods

Pre-existing conditions

Curable pre-existing conditions (like an old ear infection or a one-off bout of vomiting) can be re-evaluated and covered again after 12 consecutive symptom-free, treatment-free months. Chronic conditions (diabetes, ongoing allergies, chronic orthopedic issues) stay excluded for good. Few competitors distinguish curable from chronic this explicitly.

Who Embrace is not for

Owners who need the orthopedic wait gone on day one rather than reduced to 14 days with a vet exam, or anyone comparing accident-only plans (Embrace accident-only is a fixed $5,000 a year).
