Figo vs Embrace: which should you pick?

By the WhichPetPlan editorial team · Last verified 2026-08-25
Short answer

Embrace wins on score and mechanics: 8.8 out of 10 for dogs against Figo's 7.9, a curable pre-existing path after 12 clean months, and a deductible that drops $50 every claim-free year. Figo keeps two real edges: the only 100% reimbursement tier in our lineup and 24-hour accident cover, at nearly identical illustrative prices, about $40/mo for a dog versus $41 at Embrace.

Which one handles a messy health history better?

Embrace. It re-evaluates curable pre-existing conditions, an old ear infection or a single bout of vomiting, after 12 consecutive symptom-free, treatment-free months, while chronic conditions stay excluded. Figo applies the standard exclusion with no reinstatement path documented in our review data. If your pet has anything curable in its history, this is the difference that matters.

When does Figo make more sense?

When payback rate or speed leads. Figo's 100% reimbursement tier is unique in our lineup but requires a $500 or $750 deductible and cannot combine with its unlimited Higher Coverage plan; the Popular plan caps at $10,000. Accidents are covered after just 24 hours, where Embrace starts accidents immediately but holds cruciate ligament injuries, IVDD and hip dysplasia for 6 months unless a vet exam lands in your first two weeks. Figo's own 6-month orthopedic hold waives with an exam inside the enrollment window.

What about extras, limits, and price?

Embrace runs annual accident and illness limits from $2,000 to unlimited with no lifetime maximum, sells a Wellness Rewards allowance of $250 or $450 a year covering grooming and nutrition consults, and cuts its $100 to $1,000 deductible by $50 each claim-free year. Figo answers with Wellness Powerups and app-first service through Pet Cloud, with no real phone support. Prices are nearly tied: about $40/mo for a Figo dog versus $41 at Embrace, and $23 versus $22 for cats.

Does either Figo or Embrace cover pre-existing conditions?
Neither covers chronic pre-existing conditions. Embrace re-covers curable ones after 12 consecutive symptom-free months; Figo documents no such path in our review data.
Which insurer offers 100% reimbursement?

How do the orthopedic waiting periods compare?
Both hold orthopedic conditions for 6 months with an escape hatch. Embrace cuts the wait to 14 days if your vet performs an orthopedic exam within your first two weeks. Figo waives it with an exam completed and submitted inside the enrollment window.
