Does pet insurance cover wellness and routine care?
Not on the base policy. Vaccines, annual exams, and flea prevention are excluded from accident-and-illness cover at every insurer we review. Wellness is an optional add-on, usually a capped allowance that roughly tracks what you pay for it. Lemonade sells a wellness add-on around $5 per month plus separate add-ons for dental illness, behavioral care, physical therapy, vet visit fees, and end-of-life expenses. Embrace Wellness Rewards is a $250 or $450 annual allowance that can include grooming, nail trims, and nutrition consults. Healthy Paws offers no wellness add-on at any tier. Trupanion has no routine-care wellness plan. This unused answer is not the wellness blog and not is-pet-insurance-worth-it.
Does pet insurance cover wellness and routine care?
Insurance is built for the unpredictable bill. A checkup is predictable. That is why every base policy we review leaves routine care out. Buying a wellness add-on does not change pre-existing exclusions or illness waiting periods on the accident-and-illness core.
Official Lemonade waits on that core are 0 days for accidents nationwide, 14 days for illness, and 30 days for orthopedic conditions. The wellness add-on is a separate optional product. It is not a shortcut around those clocks.
Who sells a wellness add-on?
Lemonade: optional wellness around $5 per month, plus a-la-carte add-ons for dental illness, behavioral conditions, physical therapy, vet visit fees, and end-of-life expenses. Embrace: Wellness Rewards at $250 or $450 per year, including items most rivals exclude. Spot: optional preventive-care coverage at enrollment or renewal. Figo: Wellness Powerups (Basic names microchipping up to $30; Wellness Plus adds prevention, blood panels, fecal tests, and deworming). Fetch: Fetch Wellness as an add-on to an existing accident-and-illness policy. Pets Best: two optional wellness tiers, plus separate exam-fee and physical-therapy add-ons.
Healthy Paws sells none. Trupanion sells recovery and complementary-care riders, not checkup coverage. We have not published a typical wellness payout table beyond those named allowances. Premiums remain illustrative starting estimates, not quotes.
When the add-on is worth it
If you already keep vaccines, exams, and prevention on schedule, an allowance can smooth cash flow. If you skip routine visits, you are paying premium for receipts you will never file. The leftover worth-it page is about the $5,000 to $10,000 emergency, not this add-on.
Lemonade is the only live Get-quote hop. A wellness button is not enrollment in Embrace, Figo, or Pets Best. Those insurers have no /go destination.
