Does pet insurance cover pancreatitis?
Yes, when pancreatitis is newly diagnosed after enrollment and the illness waiting period. Diagnostics, hospitalization, and prescribed treatment then claim minus your deductible, at your chosen 70, 80, or 90 percent rate, up to the annual limit. Pancreatitis is an illness, so accident-only policies do not pay. A vomiting, appetite, or pancreas note before enrollment or during the wait can make the condition pre-existing. WhichPetPlan has not published a named pancreatitis coverage or exclusion stance for any of the eight reviewed insurers beyond those standard illness rules.

Is pancreatitis an accident or an illness?
Pancreatitis sits on the illness side of every policy we review, even when a fatty meal or dietary indiscretion triggered the episode. That is why this page is not a twin of the vomiting-and-diarrhea answer: the claim category is illness, and accident-only cover leaves it on you.
Illness waits run about 14 days at Lemonade, Embrace, Spot, Pets Best, and Figo, up to 15 days at Fetch, 15 days at Healthy Paws, and 30 days at Trupanion. Official Lemonade waits are 0 days for accidents nationwide, 14 days for illness, and 30 days for orthopedic conditions, with no separate cruciate wait.
What a covered pancreatitis claim includes
When the diagnosis is new, the claimable path is the real invoice: exam, bloodwork, imaging where prescribed, hospitalization, and medication, reimbursed minus your deductible at your chosen rate, up to the annual limit. We do not publish a typical pancreatitis bill on this site, so this page does not invent one.
Ceiling matters if episodes repeat after a covered first diagnosis. Lemonade configures up to $100,000. Healthy Paws and Trupanion pay unlimited on their designs. Trupanion charges its deductible once per diagnosed condition for the life of the pet. Those structures are compared on the insurer reviews. Premiums on this site are illustrative starting estimates, never quotes.
When pancreatitis becomes pre-existing
Every insurer we review excludes anything that showed signs before the policy started or during the waiting period, even without a formal diagnosis. A GI workup, a vomiting cluster, or a pancreas enzyme note on the chart can be enough.
If the first covered episode happens after the wait, later treatment of that same diagnosed condition typically stays inside the policy, subject to the annual limit. A pre-enrollment episode does not get a reset. Embrace and Lemonade (most states) may re-evaluate some curable conditions after 12 clean months; chronic or ongoing pancreatitis does not qualify for that path.
