Lemonade does not publish a separate 6-month cruciate wait. Cruciate ligament events sit under the 30-day orthopedic period. If your dog shows any knee stiffness or limping before enrollment or during that 30-day window, that injury can still be classified as pre-existing, so enroll young and healthy rather than waiting for symptoms.

On accidents, Lemonade now matches the fastest we track: Fetch also has no accident wait from the effective date, Figo starts at 24 hours, Pets Best waits 3 days (waivable with a qualifying exam), and Trupanion waits 5 days. On illness, Lemonade’s 14 days matches most competitors; Trupanion waits 30 days.
On orthopedic fine print, Lemonade’s 30-day wait is shorter than Embrace, Figo, and Pets Best, which hold cruciate or orthopedic claims for 6 months (Embrace and Figo can cut that with a vet exam; Pets Best may reduce or waive with a participating veterinarian). Spot has no separate orthopedic wait beyond its standard 14-day period. Lemonade does not offer a vet-exam waiver.
What this means for enrollment timing
Waiting periods only matter before anything goes wrong. Every insurer we review excludes pre-existing conditions, meaning any sign of a condition showing before enrollment or during the waiting period, even undiagnosed. A limp that appears on day 20 of Lemonade’s 30-day orthopedic wait will not be covered.
