How much does cat insurance cost?
Illustrative starting estimates for a healthy one-year-old cat, verified on this site, run $14 to $35 per month across the eight insurers we review. The cheapest published entries are Pets Best at $14 and Lemonade at $16. Trupanion is the high end at $35. Real prices depend on breed, age, ZIP code, deductible, and reimbursement rate, and they rise with age. These figures are estimates, never quotes.

Lemonade is the one insurer on this site we can send you to for a live quote. That does not make it the right plan for every pet. As of August 2026, Lemonade Pet is not available in Alaska, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, or Wyoming.
Some links here are partner links. If you buy through one, the insurer may pay us a fee. It never changes your premium and it never changes a ranking.

What does the catalog actually publish for cats?
The same one-year-old starting table used on our puppy and premium answers lists cats at $14 to $35 per month. Pets Best $14, Lemonade $16, Trupanion $35. That is the closest published number we have to a young cat. We do not invent a separate kitten-only price table.
Breed moves the number. Sphynx cats carry an illustrative starting estimate near $38/mo on the HCM guide. British Shorthairs sit near $25/mo. Those are still estimates, not quotes.
What changes the quote from the catalog number?
Age is the largest lever after breed. Senior cats cost more, and pre-existing exclusions cover more of the likely claims. Deductible and reimbursement rate (70, 80, or 90 percent) move the monthly premium in the other direction.
Lemonade is the paid quote path we publish for this question. Get a Lemonade quote for your ZIP rather than treating $16 as a price.
