Short answer

WhichPetPlan has published one timed claims figure: Trupanion says about 75 percent of its claims are handled within 24 hours, and Trupanion is the only reviewed insurer with true Vet Direct Pay at participating clinics so you cover the per-condition deductible and the fixed 10 percent at checkout. Everyone else in this lineup is reimbursement-based: you pay the vet, then claim. Lemonade settles much of its claims flow in-app. Figo runs claims and service through the Pet Cloud app, with little phone support. Healthy Paws Direct Pay must be pre-arranged with claims; it is not automatic desk pay. We have not published typical calendar days for Lemonade, Embrace, Spot, Pets Best, Figo, Fetch, or Healthy Paws reimbursements, so this page does not invent an industry average. This page is not how-reimbursement-works and not how-claims-get-denied. Lemonade is the only live quote link. Trupanion has no /go on this site.

How long do pet insurance claims take?

Speed is a process fact, not a coverage guarantee. A clean invoice and records still have to pass the deductible, reimbursement rate, annual limit, waiting period, and pre-existing review. A fast denial is still a denial.

The only published clock in our insurer facts is Trupanion: about 75 percent of claims handled within 24 hours, plus Vet Direct Pay where the hospital supports it. That is why this leftover exists instead of reprinting the reimbursement-math page.

What the other seven actually publish

Lemonade markets in-app claims. Figo markets Pet Cloud claims. Healthy Paws offers pre-arranged Direct Pay, not checkout pay. Embrace, Spot, Pets Best, and Fetch are pay-then-claim in our reviews. We do not invent “7 to 14 business days” or similar for those brands.

Exam fees can sit outside the eligible bill unless you bought that coverage. That shrinks the payout, not the clock.

What this page does not invent

No median Lemonade payout day. No Fetch ACH day. No Pets Best phone-queue time. If a fact is not in insurerFacts.ts, it is omitted. Current Lemonade marketing waits (your state policy controls) are 0 days accident from the policy effective date, 14 days illness, and 30 days orthopedic. Those are waiting periods before a claim is eligible, not claim-processing days. Lemonade Pet is not sold in AK, ID, KS, SD, VT, WV, or WY as of October 2026.

Related questions

Which pet insurer pays claims the fastest?
The only timed figure we publish is Trupanion: about 75% of claims handled within 24 hours, with Vet Direct Pay at participating clinics. We do not rank the other seven by speed because we have not published their typical days.
Do I still pay the vet first?
Almost always yes. Trupanion Vet Direct Pay is the desk-pay exception at participating clinics. Healthy Paws Direct Pay is pre-arranged, not automatic.
Is a waiting period the same as claim processing time?
No. Waiting periods decide when a new accident or illness becomes eligible. Claim processing starts after you submit an eligible invoice.
Is this the same as how reimbursement works?
No. /answers/how-does-pet-insurance-reimbursement-work is the math (deductible × rate × cap). This page is the published timing leftover.
