Is Embrace pet insurance worth it?
Embrace pet insurance is worth it for owners whose pet has a curable condition in its history or who rarely claim. It re-covers curable pre-existing conditions (an old ear infection, a single bout of vomiting) after 12 consecutive symptom-free, treatment-free months, the same 12-month path Lemonade describes in most states, and its deductible drops $50 every claim-free year. At an illustrative starting estimate of about $41/month for a dog and $22/month for a cat, it costs less than Trupanion but more than Lemonade. Skip it if you need the orthopedic wait gone entirely rather than cut from 6 months to 14 days with a vet exam.

Lemonade is the one insurer on this site we can send you to for a live quote. That does not make it the right plan for every pet. As of August 2026, Lemonade Pet is not available in Alaska, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, or Wyoming.

Embrace runs mid-to-upper in our catalog: an illustrative starting estimate of about $41/month for a healthy young dog and $22/month for a cat. Accident coverage starts as soon as the policy is effective, illness after 14 days. Deductibles run $100 to $1,000 annually, reimbursement is 70/80/90%, and accident-and-illness annual limits run from $2,000 up to unlimited with no lifetime maximum.
The two features nobody else matches exactly: the Healthy Pet Deductible drops your annual deductible by $50 every claim-free year, and the optional Wellness Rewards add-on gives a $250 or $450 annual allowance toward routine care, including grooming, nail trims and nutrition consults that most insurers exclude.
The curable pre-existing path
Every insurer excludes pre-existing conditions. Embrace and Lemonade both distinguish curable from chronic: a curable condition can be covered again after 12 consecutive symptom-free, treatment-free months (Lemonade, in most states). Chronic conditions such as diabetes, ongoing allergies and chronic orthopedic issues stay excluded for good, and knee or ligament conditions never qualify for the curable path.
When a competitor wins instead
The orthopedic fine print needs planning: cruciate ligament injuries, IVDD and hip dysplasia carry a 6-month wait, cut to 14 days only if your vet performs an orthopedic exam and submits it within your first two weeks of enrollment. If you want unlimited payouts without exam paperwork, Healthy Paws is our top dog pick at 9.3 versus Embrace at 8.8. If price dominates, Lemonade starts around $28/month for a dog. And accident-only buyers should note Embrace caps that product at a fixed $5,000 a year.
