Does pet insurance cover arthritis?
Yes, when arthritis is newly diagnosed after enrollment and the relevant waiting period. Pain medication, joint workups, and prescribed follow-ups then claim minus your deductible, at your chosen rate, up to the annual limit. Arthritis noted before enrollment or during the wait is pre-existing and stays excluded, because it is chronic and never qualifies for curable-condition reinstatement.

Lemonade is the one insurer on this site we can send you to for a live quote. That does not make it the right plan for every pet. As of August 2026, Lemonade Pet is not available in Alaska, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, South Dakota, Vermont, West Virginia, or Wyoming.
Some links here are partner links. If you buy through one, the insurer may pay us a fee. It never changes your premium and it never changes a ranking.

Is arthritis an illness or an orthopedic wait?
Arthritis is an illness and often an orthopedic or degenerative claim. Accident-only policies do not pay for it. Illness waits run about 14 days at Lemonade, Embrace, Spot, Pets Best, and Figo. Lemonade also applies a flat 30-day orthopedic period. Embrace and Figo hold named orthopedic conditions for 6 months unless a qualifying exam shortens that clock.
Hip dysplasia is the related condition already answered on this site. Arthritis that follows a pre-enrollment limp can be tied back to that sign and denied under the same pre-existing rule.
What a covered arthritis claim includes
When the diagnosis is new, claims can include the exam, imaging, prescription pain medication, and prescribed joint supplements or injections, reimbursed minus the deductible at 70, 80, or 90 percent, up to the annual limit.
Wellness add-ons do not fund this. Add-ons pay fixed allowances toward routine care. Arthritis treatment is an illness claim on the base policy.
