Does Lemonade cover emergency vet visits?

By the WhichPetPlan editorial team · Last verified 2026-08-24
Short answer

Yes. Emergency treatment for a new accident or illness claims under Lemonade’s core policy: accidents after 0 days nationwide, illness after 14 days, reimbursed at your rate up to your limit. The emergency exam fee itself is not in the base policy; it is one of Lemonade’s separate optional add-ons.

What the claim includes

Emergency hospitalization, surgery, diagnostics and medications for a newly occurring condition are all claimable: deductibles $100-$750, 70/80/90% reimbursement, annual limits up to $100,000. The clock matters most right after enrollment, so know your effective date before an emergency happens.

The exam fee line item is the surprise for many owners: Lemonade sells vet visit fee coverage as its own add-on rather than folding it into the base price, unlike insurers where exam fees are included by default.

Before an emergency strikes

Enroll young and healthy so both clocks (2-day accident, 14-day illness) are long past when something urgent happens. If you are configuring the policy, weigh the visit-fee add-on against your likelihood of using after-hours clinics, since those fees recur every emergency visit.
