Does French Bulldog pet insurance cover BOAS surgery?
BOAS surgery is typically an illness, hereditary, or conformational claim, not an accident. An accident-and-illness policy can pay when breathing signs first appear after enrollment and after the illness waiting period. That is not a guarantee. Every insurer we review excludes pre-existing signs such as snoring or noisy breathing. WhichPetPlan has not published a named covers-BOAS or excludes-BOAS stance for any of the eight reviewed insurers. Our French Bulldog data puts the breed in the high-risk dog tier for BOAS, IVDD, and skin-fold dermatitis (roughly 11x the risk of a dog without skin folds), with an illustrative starting estimate near $74 per month for a healthy one-year-old, not a quote. Why French Bulldogs are the BOAS page
The unused URL is the breed lock. The category BOAS answer already says we cannot name a BOAS plan. The French Bulldog blog is the longer airway essay. Soft-palate resection and stenotic-nares correction use the same claim path. There is no second procedure URL.
Accident-only policies do not pay. Illness waits cluster around 14 days at Lemonade, Embrace, Spot, Pets Best, and Figo, 15 days at Healthy Paws and Fetch, and 30 days at Trupanion. Official Lemonade waits are 0 days for accidents nationwide, 14 days for illness, and 30 days for orthopedic conditions. Do not confuse BOAS with the 6-month cruciate or hip clocks.
What actually decides a Frenchie BOAS claim
Pre-existing signs are the usual denial. Snoring, noisy breathing, heat intolerance, or a puppy-exam airway note can exclude BOAS for the life of the policy, even without a surgery recommendation. Embrace may re-evaluate some curable issues after 12 clean months; chronic breathing problems stay excluded.
Breed loading is the other lever. The catalog prices a healthy one-year-old French Bulldog around $74 per month and a Bulldog around $81 per month, illustrative starting estimates, not quotes. Our Bulldog notes say several insurers load or decline that breed outright. We still do not have a named insurer-by-insurer BOAS exclusion list.
What this page does not invent
