Does pet insurance cover conjunctivitis?

Yes. Conjunctivitis is covered as an ordinary illness on every plan we review once the illness waiting period passes, typically about 14 to 15 days after enrollment. It is one of the standard examples of a curable condition, so even a bout documented before enrollment can be re-covered by several insurers after it stays fully resolved for their clean period.

Pink eye treatment, the exam, drops or ointment, and follow-ups, claims under illness terms on all eight plans we review. Illness waiting periods run about 14 days at Lemonade (official Lemonade accidents at 0 days nationwide), Embrace, Spot, Figo and Pets Best, up to 15 days at Fetch and Healthy Paws, and 30 days at Trupanion.
Watch the cause question. If conjunctivitis traces back to an excluded underlying condition such as ongoing allergies or a chronic eyelid defect, the claim can be denied under that condition’s exclusion rather than paid as a standalone infection.
Past episodes and reinstatement
Conjunctivitis appears in insurers’ own examples of curable pre-existing conditions: Healthy Paws names it alongside respiratory infections as conditions that may be re-covered after full resolution for a continuous 365 days, and Embrace’s 12-month symptom-free path applies to it too. Lemonade offers a curable-condition path in most states.
The practical takeaway is the same across plans: enroll between flare-ups, not during one. An active infection at enrollment or during the wait becomes an excluded condition until it resolves and any applicable clean period passes.
